The work the work in 2004 |
......the job has begun...... |
Oktober 2003 we started the restoration. We made drawings of all damaged frames. The fuselage has been positioned upside down on a trestle. The photo opposite shows Jan Forster levelling out the fuselage. In January 2004 the first repairjob started when the team built some new fuselage frames for the nose section. Frames nr 1 and 2 are in a further stage of completion and the mainframe has been repaired. Click on photo's to enlarge |
The used materials For the stringers and longerons we use spruce. This type of wood was also used for the original manufacturer. Further, we have used aircraft quality of birch plywood in three and five layers with thicknessen of 3.0 mm, 2.50 mm, 2.0 mm, 1.50 mm and 1.0 mm. For the keel we use ash wood. The glue we have used is AERODUX, one of the few certified glue types in the Netherlands. |
Every wednesday evening the repairteam has been busy rebuilding and repairing. The original damaged parts have been carefully measured and drawings have been made. The raw material has been cut to the proper size and at the end of each evening the prepared parts have been test fitted and glued together, fitting the parts with differtent types of glueing clamps. At this moment, february 12, frames nrs one, two and three and the mainframe have almost been completed and are ready to be put into their proper positions in the fuselage. Attached photo's give an impression of the work done so far. The work has been keeping up momentum and we are on schedule |
April All renewed and repaired frames and stringers are fitted into position. The nose section has been getting its shape back again |
14 may 2004: the complete basic structure is repaired and glued together. Work has progressed so far that we can assemble and fix the wing fittings. After they are installed the skin panels can be glued into position. |
July During June more structure parts have been added: the keel, the mid-console and the nose stringers. On the photo's it can be seen that the fuselage nose is getting more and more its final form. All metal parts have been inspected, repaired and newly coated with a glossy color RAL 7044. |
September: Martijn and Jan F. have been to England to search for wingparts, and have found a wingtip to fit on the damaged left wing. This job will be kept for next winter. |
Oktober: Work has been progressing at a satisfactory rate. Re-skinning of the sides of the fuselage has been finished. The fuselage has been turned on its feet again. The next repair job will be the top- part of the fuselage behind the cockpit, and fitting the canopy. |
